NEW DELHI - Four people have been arrested for allegedly killing a 20-year-old fruit seller in west Delhi last week for his relationship with the daughter of one of the accused, police said Monday.

Upender, who hailed from Uttar Pradesh, was found dead with his throat slit Jan 13 in a room he shared with four friends at Shivani Enclave in Dwarka’s Sector 16 B.

Ayub Khan, 45, a contractor and Upender’s landlord, allegedly promised to give Rs.30,000 to Vinod Kumar, 25, and Sonu, 23, who are brothers, and Mahesh, 22 to kill the victim.

Police apprehended Khan Monday evening while the other three were arrested Sunday.

“Khan confessed that he was unhappy with the acquaintance between Upender and his daughter and decided to kill him,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Sharad Aggarwal told IANS.

“The contractor arranged a party and offered drinks and food to Upender and his friends. After everybody had gone to sleep, the contractor called all the three people whom he had hired and with their help he slit Upender’s throat,” said Aggarwal.
