Lalgarh carnage toll rises to eight

KOLKATA - The deaths in the Netai village carnage rose to eight as one of the injured died of her injuries at a state-run premier hospital here Friday.

Geetali Adak, 40, died at SSKM Hospital 6.35 a.m., triggering protests by Trinamool Congress activists who alleged negligence in her treatment.

The woman sustained bullet injuries in the lower abdomen when miscreants allegedly backed by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) triggered violence Jan 7 in the Nitai village near the Maoist hub of Lalgarh in West Midnapore district.

She was shifted to SSKM Hospital in a critical condition.

Six others were admitted in the same hospital with serious injuries in the incident.

Seven people were killed in firing by miscreants in the village.
