Two Kashmiris among five nabbed with hashish in Mumbai

THANE - The Narcotics Control Bureau has nabbed five people, including two Kashmiris, and seized hashish worth Rs.3.5 million from them, a top official said here Thursday.

According to Yashodhan Wanage, NCB zonal director, the operation took place near Hotel Fountain, Ghodbunder Road, on the outskirts of Mumbai.

“We intercepted a silver coloured Maruti 800 car early yesterday (Wednesday) and found eight packets of hashish stuck in the back rest of the rear seat of the vehicle,” Wanage said.

The consignment weighed 23 kg and its market value is around Rs.3.5 million, he added.

He said the hashish was being transported from Srinagar to Mumbai by the Kashmiri duo and was meant for onward distribution through their local accomplices.

Besides the two Kashmiris, the other three arrested are from Mumbai.

The five have been identified as: Liyaqat Ali Bhat (20), of Soura in Srinagar; Manzoor Ahmad Dar (26) of Nowgam in Bandipora; Rasik Jagjivan Devraj (52) of Mulji Nagar in Borivli West; Madhi Alagan Krishnan Nadar (46) of Poisar Sukhlal Chawl in Kandivli East, and Prakash Dhirajlal Soni (34) of Kathiawadi Chawl in Malad East.
