NEW DELHI - Three people have been arrested from north Delhi for running a fake currency unit and circulating counterfeit notes, police said Monday.

Omprakash, 40, Sunny, 22, and Rohit, 21, were arrested from Bhajanpura Saturday after a raid, police said.

Fake notes of Rs.50 and Rs.100 denomination, with a total face value of Rs.20,500, apart from copier, scanner, printer, unfinished fake currency notes and ink were recovered.

“The three were minting currency notes of Rs.50 and Rs.100 denomination only. They used these notes after dark to evade detection,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Arun Kampani.

In last three months, they minted fake notes with a face value of more than Rs.3 lakh, Kampani said.

Omprakash told police that he learnt making fake notes from Shiv Kumar, a resident of Etah in Uttar Pradesh. “We have informed the police in Uttar Pradesh about Shiv Kumar,” he said.
