NEW DELHI - Five people have been arrested for burning a man to death on New Year’s day in south Delhi over his relationship with a woman against the wishes of her brother, police said Tuesday.

The accused poured petrol on Vaibhav Mishra (28), who was a territorial manager with a communications company, and set him and his motorcycle on fire in Dakshinpuri.

According to police, the deceased was burnt to death by Surender and his four friends - Anil, Rahul, Prakash and Rajiv - just half an hour after the new year started.

Surender, Anil, Rahul and Rajiv are employees of a wedding band company while Prakash works as a private Sweeper at Sanchar Mantralaya in CGO Complex.

Mishra was having an affair with the sister of Surender. He (Surender) came to know that Mishra has come to attend a party in Dakshinpuri in south Delhi and plotted the murder, said O.P. Mishra, deputy commissioner of police, southeast district.

Surender plotted the murder as he was opposed to Mishra’s relationship with his sister, he said.

On early morning Jan 1, the burnt body of Mishra and his motorcycle were found in Dakshinpuri.
