Absconding rapist arrested

NEW DELHI - An alleged rapist absconding since the last 14 months and suspected to be involved in a gangrape case, has been arrested, police said Tuesday.

According to police, Mukesh was apprehended from Lahori Gate area in central Delhi recently.

He was involved in the abduction and rape of an 18-year-old girl.

“In October 2009, he along with his two associates Sunny and Nisar allegedly abducted and raped an 18-year-old girl in Trilokpuri while she was returning home from work,” said a senior police official.

While Nisar and Sunny were arrested and are in judicial custody, Mukesh had evaded arrest.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) S.S. Yadav, Mukesh was staying in a rented accommodation in Shakarpur and did not even contact his relatives to avoid arrest.

“We got a tip off that he was present in Lahori Gate area and arrested him,” Yadav said.

Mukesh has been declared a proclaimed offender in at least six cases, including attempt to murder, robbery and burglary.
