RAIPUR - Chhattisgarh Police was Tuesday clueless about how a bullet hit a Class 5 boy in his school in the Bastar region a day ago. The 11-year-old is battling for life in a hospital.

Ankit Kumar Soni of Dipti Convent School was Monday hit by a stray bullet in Jagdalpur town. The bullet pierced through his waist while he was having lunch in the school playground.

“It was a completely shocking incident for the students. It’s for sure that no one fired from inside the convent. The bullet had come from outside,” Jagdalpur Additional Superintendent of Police Pankaj Chandra told IANS over the phone.

Terrified by the incident, most of the students did not turn for school Tuesday, while a few visited Soni at MPM Hospital and prayed for his life.

A battalion of the state police is based near the school. It is highly unlikely that a bullet fired during training went astray and hit the boy, a police officer said.
