CBI closure report in Aarushi murder shows its failure: Lawyers

NEW DELHI - Terming the Central Bureau of Investigation’s closure report in the Aarushi murder case as a huge failure, a lawyer representing her parents Wednesday said their faith in the investigating agency has been shattered.
It is a huge failure of the CBI. Our faith in the agency have been misplaced now, said one of the lawyers, Pinaki Mishra.
Rebecca John, another lawyer representing the Talwars, said: “We will definitely examine, contest the closure report and, if need be, independently challenge it.”
Aarushi, 14, the daughter of dentist parents Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, was found murdered mysteriously in their Jalvayu Vihar apartment in Noida May 16, 2008. The family’s domestic help, Hemraj, whom Noida police initially suspected for the murder, was also found killed a day later on their flat’s terrace.
After numerous rounds of brain mapping, narco analysis test and lie detector test on Aarushi’s parents, the CBI Wednesday sought to close the murder case unsolved case.
“The CBI has filed a closure report in the Ghaziabad court, citing lack of evidence in the murder,” a CBI officer told IANS.
John said: There is no closure for the parents as they know that their daughter’s killer is roaming freely. The news of the closure report is devastating despite the long gruesome interrogation of her parents by the CBI.
Condemning the investigation taken up initially by Uttar Pradesh police, both the lawyers felt that the CBI could not get enough evidence as the local police handled the case irresponsibly.
Crucial evidence was corrupted by the Uttar Pradesh police and they hyped up the case by giving the honour killing angle to it. In the end, the CBI was unable to get enough evidence, added John.
“I think the CBI should first have investigated the botch up done by the Uttar Pradesh police, added Mishra.
The endless speculation on their (Talwars’) character was taxing. Allegations like honour killing and they being involved in the killing of their only child were gruesome. The scientific tests were taken up by them to clear their positions, said John.
