Five Bengal Maoist leaders’ police custody extended

KOLKATA - A city court Tuesday extended the police custody of five Maoist leaders till Dec 18, police said.
The Maoist leaders, including state committee secretary Sudip Chongdar alias Kanchan, were produced before the chief metropolitan magistrate in Bankshal under tight security. Their police remand was extended by four days, said a senior police officer.
The accused were arrested Dec 4.
The police officer said: We requested the magistrate to extend their police remand up to 14 days and submitted a seizure list containing details of the ammunition, sophisticated communication devices and Maoist literature.
Kanchan and other state committee members Anal Ghosh alias Ajoyda, Burun Sur alias Bidyut, Kalpana Maity alias Anu and another supporter Bimal Ghosh alias Shankar were earlier arrested and produced before the court Saturday (Dec 4) and remanded to 10 days’ police custody.
