HOSHIARPUR - An army officer, his wife, a daughter and their driver were killed in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district Saturday morning when their vehicle was caught between and crushed by two trucks, police here said.
The incident took place on the Mahilpur-Chandigarh road when the family was travelling from Pathankot to Chandigarh. The officer has been identified as Col D.C. Dubey. Another daughter is battling for survival.
“The Gypsy (vehicle) was so badly crushed that we had to take the help of a JCB machine to separate it from the trucks. We have ascertained the identity of the deceased from his identity card. The other deceased include his wife, a daughter and driver,” a police official said.
“Another daughter of Dubey and his gunman have been shifted to a civil hospital in Mahilpur in a serious condition. From preliminary investigations, it seems the Gypsy driver had fallen asleep for a moment when the accident occurred,” he said.
Hoshiarpur town is around 100 km from Chandigarh.
