RAIPUR - An official of the Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) was arrested Friday on charges of lapses that led to the death of two workers at the company’s manufacturing plant in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh district, police said.
“Sitaram Garg, the manager of JSPL’s oxygen unit, was arrested on charges of lapses. We registered a case against him,” Raigarh district Superintendent of Police Rahul Sharma told IANS.
Ramkripal Singh, 54, resident of Gajipur of Uttar Pradesh, and Ramkhilawan Dhiwar, 35, resident of Janjgir-Champa district of Chhattisgarh, were killed and Bhola Thakur critically injured Wednesday evening at the plant, some 220 km from Raipur.
The accident took place at the oxygen unit of the plant.
JSPL, owned by Congress MP Naveen Jindal, formed a team to probe the reasons for the workers’ deaths. It rejected reports that the deaths were caused due to gas leakage.
