GHAZIABAD - Three Uttarakhand Police constables were detained Thursday after they tried to mislead police here about the escape of a criminal they had escorted to Delhi for a court case.
The three constables - Parminder, Sudhanshu and Rajendra Prasad - Wednesday brought Amit alias Bhura to Delhi from Dehradun for a hearing in the Rohini district courts but allowed Amit to stay with his wife in Dilshad Colony in Delhi that night.
The three constables slept in a separate room while Amit was allowed to stay with his wife and took advantage of the situation to escape.
On finding their charge had escaped, the constables Thursday approached the Delhi Police but their complaint was not entertained. They then allegedly fabricated the story that Amit fled by jumping from the bus in Sahibabad area of Ghaziabad.
“When the facts were verified, their story was found to be concocted. The three constables were detained in Sahibabad police station. The Dehradun police have been informed. Parmider, who hails from the same areas as Amit and allegedly conspired with Amit to help him escape while the other two constables followed him,” said Superintendent of Police (City) A.K. Vijaita.
“Amit is a notorious criminal. He committed a big robbery amounting to over Rs. 30 lakh in a prestigious showroom, Vishal Mega Mart in Dehradun. He was wanted in Delhi therefore three constables were allowed to take him to Delhi for a court hearing,” he added.
