PRETORIA - At least nine people were killed when a private plane crashed near Plettenberg Bay off South Africa’s southern coast, the company that owned the aircraft and whose CEO died in the accident, said.
The aircraft, which belonged to South African tiles company Italtile, lost its link from air traffic radar while travelling from South Africa’s Queenstown to Plettenberg Bay Tuesday, BuaNews reported.
According to Italtile’s board of directors, the group’s CEO Gianpaolo Ravazzotti and eight of his colleagues and business partners died in the crash.
The National Sea Rescue Institute located the wreckage of the aircraft they were travelling in and discovered the bodies Wednesday.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.
