UNNAO - A minor girl was stabbed in the jaw and throat for spurning the advances of a man in an Uttar Pradesh village, police said Wednesday, just three days after another 17-year-old girl was brutally disfigured in Fatehpur district for resisting gangrape.
The latest incident took place late Monday in Kansapurwa village near Unnao, about 35 km from Lucknow. Ram Sewak, aged around 28 years, was arrested for attacking the girl, also 17 years old, after he failed to rape her.
“Ram Sewak had been absconding since the attack. Acting on the complaint of the victim’s father, we constituted a team and managed to arrest Ram Sewak Wednesday,” police inspector Shagir Ahmad told reporters in Unnao.
“Ram Sewak has been booked under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 307 (attempt to murder) and 345 (wrongful confinement of person),” he added.
According to police, the victim is being treated at a Kanpur hospital and her condition is stated to be out of danger.
“We shifted her from a hospital here to Lala Rai Hospital in Kanpur for better treatment,” said Ahmad.
Last week’s victim of a similar instance of sexual assault is also in a Kanpur hospital. She had been maimed by three youths in Fatehpur district late Saturday for resisting rape. Of the three accused involved in the brutal attack, two have been arrested.
