Three held for robbery in capital

NEW DELHI - A day after a 63-year-old woman was assaulted and cash and jewellery worth Rs.7 lakh was stolen from her south Delhi residence, three men were arrested Tuesday for their involvement in the robbery, police said.
The accused have been identified as Subhash, 22, Om Prakash, 34, and Sonu Singh, 22.
On Monday afternoon, two men, posing as telephone mechanics, entered Lalita Devi’s house in Sukdev Vihar while she was alone.
She told the police that she had actually lodged a complaint with the MTNL.
She said that the duo entered her bedroom on some pretext and overpowered her. One of them pinned her down and put the pillow on her face while the other opened the cupboard and decamped with cash and jewellery worth Rs.7 lakh, a police officer said.
“We first apprehended Subhash from Taimoor Nagar. He worked as a driver in a bungalow in New Friends Colony till a few days ago, but then suddenly left the job. During interrogation, Subhash said that he along with Sonu Singh committed the robbery,” the officer said.
Subhash said that Om Prakash, who used to give tuitions to the grandchildren of the victim, had passed the information that the victim would be alone at her house from 10 a.m. to 2 pm. He also informed about the MTNL complaint.
We have recovered Rs.1.63 lakh, jewellery worth Rs.4 lakh and a bike they purchased from the looted amount, the officer added.
