NEW DELHI - A man evading arrest and declared a “proclaimed offender” by a court in four cases, including rape and stabbing, has been arrested in north Delhi, police said Tuesday.
Jitender, 24, a resident of Jwalapuri, was arrested from a park in Sultanpuri Sunday night. A country-made pistol and live cartridges were recovered from him.
“During patrolling on Sunday at around 10.15 p.m. in Sultanpuri area, three people were found consuming liquor in the park. The trio tried to run away but were held,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer District) Chhaya Sharma.
The other two people arrested with Jitender were identified as Vikas, 21, and Madan Lal, 21. “The trio was booked under the excise law and a case under the Arms Act was registered,” said Sharma.
During interrogation, Jitender admitted that last year, in Nangloi area, he fired at police and was held. Later, he was released on bail. He was also arrested with a knife in Sultanpuri and released on bail.
“In Punjabi Bagh, he along with his associate Karan raped a woman and escaped. His associate Karan was held. He told police about Jitender’s involvement. In Mianwali area, he had stabbed a man identified as Ajay,” said Sharma.
In all these cases, the accused has been declared a proclaimed offender, she said.
He also said that to evade arrest, he shifted base along with his family from Jwalapuri to JJ Colony at Wazirpur.
Till now, Jitendra has confessed his involvement in eight cases along with his associates Sanjay, Manoj, Pawan, Karan and Giriraj. “Efforts are being made to locate their hideouts,” added Sharma.
