Former top official surrenders in Jharkhand scam

RANCHI - Former Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) chairman Dileep Prasad, accused in the state recruitment scam, Friday surrendered in a court here and was sent to 14 days judicial custody.

Charged with helping his own relatives as well as those of politicians and other JPSC members get government jobs, Prasad was wanted for more than one year.

He surrendered before special vigilance judge Vinay Kant Khan.

Around 180 appointments were made by the JPSC in 2007-08. The vigilance bureau lodged a case last year against 32 people including Prasad and former JPSC members Radhagovind Nagesh, Shanti Devi and Gopal Singh.

Based on a vigilance probe, 39 officers so appointed were sacked last year.
