Alcoholic man commits suicide

NEW DELHI - A 46-year-old alcoholic allegedly hanged himself in his room here Tuesday night after being depressed about his life, police said.
“We got a call about a man hanging in a room at Tehkhand village in Okhla Phase I around 10.30 p.m. We rushed to the spot and took him to All India Institute of Medical Sciences where he was declared brought dead,” a police officer said.
Dulal Mahapatra, who hailed from Midnapore in West Bengal, owned a house in Ali village in Sangam Vihar, south Delhi.
The deceased’s wife Rina often used to scold him for drinking. So, Mahapatra had left his house in Sangam Vihar, where he was living with his wife, a daughter and two sons, an year ago.
He started staying with alcoholic Bansi Lal at Tehkhand village in south Delhi.
“During preliminary inquiry, we found that he committed suicide Tuesday night after having drinks,” the police officer said.
Bansi Lal told police that since the last few days, Mahapatra was upset and was always blaming himself for his life. He thought that his life was a total waste.
“The post-mortem examination has been done, and investigations are on,” the officer added.
