NEW DELHI - Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi arrived at the CBI headquarters here Wednesday morning for questioning on the alleged financial irregularities in the preparations for the event.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had raided the Delhi and Pune homes of Kalmadi Dec 24 as well as the Organising Committee’s office in the capital, two months after the mega event ended amid allegations of major financial irregularities.

The CBI is probing irregularities in the award of contracts during the Queen’s Baton Relay ceremony in London in October 2009 as also wrongdoing in awarding a contract of Rs.107 crore for procuring timing equipment for the athletics event of the Games.

Kalmadi claims he has done no wrong and is willing to face any inquiry.

Three aides of Kalmadi — T.S. Darbari, Sanjay Mohindroo and M. Jayachandran — are already in custody.
