Aarushi’s parents seek copy of closure report, blame CBI

NEW DELHI - Deprecating the CBI’s failure to solve the murder of teenager Aarushi Talwar, her irked parents said Sunday they will apply for a copy of the closure report filed by the investigating agency.
Speaking to reporters here, Rajesh and Nupur Talwar slammed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for not being able to solve the case.
However, the couple and their lawyer, Rebecca John, made it clear that they will examine the closure report before taking any further action.
“We are asking the court to allow us to examine the entire closure report and will make the necessary intervention at the appropriate time,” John said.
The couple blamed the CBI for not being able to solve the case and maligning them.
“It is nothing but a bunch of false allegations that has been thrown onto us, the CBI has condemned us for life,” Nupur Talwar said.
“Their job was to find the killers of my daughter not just condemn us for life and finish the case. This has shocked and really disturbed us,” she added.
An upset Rajesh Talwar meanwhile said he was “sad” about the “false allegations”.
“It is shocking completely. We had full confidence with the CBI and on their investigations. Even after we did whatever the CBI said they still blame us, that is very very sad,” he said.
“What else should I do to prove my innocence?”
Fourteen-year-old Aarushi was found murdered under mysterious circumstances in her Jalvayu Vihar apartment in Noida, Delhi’s suburban town in Uttar Pradesh, May 16, 2008.
The family’s domestic help, Hemraj, was also found killed on the flat’s terrace a day later.
The CBI Wednesday moved a Ghaziabad court, seeking its permission to close the Aarushi murder as an unsolved case on grounds of lack of conclusive evidence.
John meanwhile lashed the media, saying the press has been presenting the girl’s father as the accused.
“I think the press is going overboard saying that the CBI has somehow reached the conclusions. The CBI has only listed certain names, they don’t have any material evidence against Rajesh Talwar,” she said.
“From the reports that are appearing in the media, I don’t think that the CBI has conclusively established who the killer is. Please do not call him (Rajesh Talwar) an accused here, or don’t pronounce him as an accused,” she added.
The couple’s lawyer was irked by a question asked to the Talwars, calling Aarushi’s father the accused.
The closure report has apparently named Rajesh Talwar as the lone suspect and raised questions about the series of event on the day of murder and during the enquiry.
