RANCHI - An Indian Forest Service (IFS) official posted in Jharkhand committed suicide by taking overdose of medicines, police said here Wednesday.

Prasant Alok, a district forest officer (DFO), was under suspension over charges of financial mismanagement.

Police officials said that Alok was being treated for mental illness and was discharged from a hospital last month.

On Wednesday, neighbours informed the police that foul smell was coming from Alok’s house in Dorandai. The police broke open the door and found the official dead on his bed.

Police officials say that the official died two days ago. His family did not live with him.
