NEW DELHI - Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath Monday visited the control room at the Delhi Police headquarters to see how calls on various helpline numbers, including the one for women in distress, are handled.

I visited the control room to see how crime monitoring is done and how police act after a call comes on helpline numbers 100, 1091 or 1098, said Tirath.

The minister also suggested measures for crime control.

I suggested that weekly meetings should be conducted by each police station in an open space, like a park, in which the common man can participate,” she said.

“By this, the confidence of people in police will increase, they will be able to share their problems and cooperate in all the ways that police want them to, Tirath said.

I had (earlier) suggested gender sensitisation, and such workshops are being conducted in some police stations, she added.
