KANPUR - Two men were arrested in this Uttar Pradesh city Thursday with counterfeit currency having a face value of over Rs.4 lakh, police said.

Sanjeev Awasthi and Ramu were arrested from Collectorganj area with fake currency notes with a face value of Rs.4.21 lakh.

“Prima facie it appears that the two worked for an organised fake currency racket that could have international links,” a police official told reporters in Kanpur, some 80 km from Lucknow.

According to police, Awasthi is a native of Banda, while Ramu hails from Lucknow.

We believe many people are involved in the fake currency racket. We are trying to gather more information about the other gang members from the two arrested,” the official added.
