NEW DELHI - A youth Congress leader, allegedly involved in a firing incident at a municipal councillor of Orissa two months ago, has been arrested, police said Wednesday.

Raj Kumar Yadav, hailing from Rourkela in Orissa, was the national general secretary in the Nationalist Youth Congress and was arrested from a flat in Shahpur Jat area of south Delhi Jan 15.

“He revealed that he had business rivalry with area councillor Ashish Mohanty and his partners. He had hired a contract killer Karan Singh to eliminate Mohanty and his partners,” a police officer said.

Singh along with his gang members had fired indiscriminately at the targets. Mohanty and his associate Rajesh Tewari had sustained serious injuries in the incident.

Yadav fled Orissa after the incident and had been hiding in the flat since then.

“Yadav is active in politics and was also the national president of Pragatishil Yadav Morcha, executive committee member of Rourkela Goods Transport Association, life member of Rourkela Chamber of Commerce and Industries and was also affiliated to some other institutions,” he added.
