PULUMEDU - Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj Wednesday asked the Karala government to take action against those responsible for the Sabarimala stampede that left 102 pilgrims dead.

It was last Friday night that 102 pilgrims were killed in a stampede at Pulumedu. The tragedy happened here, about 30 km from the temple, soon after the celestial light appeared on the horizon.

Addressing reporters after visiting the accident site, Swaraj said the need of the hour was not an enquiry but stern action against those responsible for the tragedy.

“Right now itself, there are a few reports with the government and there is no doubt that the government here has failed to take proper steps to prevent the tragedy, and hence the government has failed in doing their duty,” she said.

Swaraj, who arrived here from Kochi, reached the accident site by road and was accompanied by top state-level party leaders.

“I will raise this issue in the Lok Sabha and wish that Sabarimala is declared as a national pilgrimage centre,” she said.
