LUCKNOW - Three drug peddlers were arrested with around 1.25 kg smack - a highly addictive morphine derivative - worth around Rs.1 crore in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district, police said Wednesday.

The three men, aged around 30 years, were nabbed Tuesday night from Hargaon town in a joint action by the Special Operations Group (SOG) and the district police.

“Acting on a tip-off, we arrested the drug peddlers who were on their way to Delhi for handing over a consignment of drugs to their clients,” inspector R.R. Rana told reporters Wednesday in Sitapur district, some 80 km from here.

“The three men, natives of Uttar Pradesh, used to supply drugs in various states of the country, including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana,” he said.

According to police, the three men gave contradictory statements about from where they received the consignment.
