LUCKNOW - At least 13 women police recruits were injured, seven of them seriously, when the bus they were travelling in fell into a deep roadside pit in Uttar Pradesh’s Faizabad district Wednesday, officials said.

The bus carrying the trainee constables spun out of control in Ranauhi after the vehicle’s axle broke.

“All the 13 injured police recruits are being treated in different hospitals. The condition of seven of them is stated to be serious. Some of them may be referred to Lucknow,” police inspector R.C. Tripathi told reporters in Faizabad, some 150 km from here.

“Most of the injured are in their early 20s,” he added.

According to the police, the women police recruits were going for training in Sitapur from Ballia.
