NEW DELHI - Fifteen people have been booked for using red beacons on their private vehicles here Wednesday, the traffic police said.

The violators include an MP, two legislators, a transport commissioner, district heads and block presidents, said Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Satyendra Garg.

“All the prosecuted persons, who are not entitled to use red beacons, had installed them on their private vehicles,” Garg said.

The Delhi Traffic Police launched a drive Tuesday to impound the vehicle of any “self proclaimed VIP” found using a red beacon on a private vehicle.

Police launched the drive two days after two men, accused of scores of robberies, were found driving around the capital in luxury cars fitted with police sirens and a red beacon.
