Jeweller’s employee held for helping robbers

NEW DELHI - A jewellery shop employee has been arrested for passing on information to a gang of robbers which helped them loot Rs.21 lakh and diamond jewellery, police said Wednesday.

According to police, Bhanwari Lal, 25, was working for a jeweller in central Delhi’s Karol Bagh.

“We received a tip off that Lal is involved in the robbery and apprehended him,” said Ashok Chand, deputy commissioner of police (crime).

Lal told police that he provided information to alleged robber Kaushal Pappi about two courier boys who were on their way to bank Dec 8 to deposit Rs.21 lakh.

Pappi and his accomplice Kumar were apprehended.

“We recovered Rs.1.80 lakh and diamond jewellery. Lal received Rs.1.50 lakh for providing information. Two other accused, Rehan and Ramesh, are absconding,” added Chand.
