Central Avenue Accident Kills a Pregnant Woman

COLONIE (GaeaTimes.com) — Rebecca Murton, a 22 year old pregnant woman was killed on Saturday morning in an one-car accident on Central Avenue . The accident occurred near Mountain View Avenue.

According to police, a 1994 Nissan driven by Marcus Witherspoon had veered off Central Avenue and struck a telephone pole around 7.45 a.m. Witherspoon’s girlfriend, Rebecca was critically injured due to the crash and was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital soon after. She lost her child in by Saturday night and then her life on Sunday morning.

Witherspoon, 22, suffered facial injuries and was treated at the same hospital. He did not have a valid license at the time, police said, was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

As neither speeding or alcohol was found to be a factor behind the crash, no further charges are expected against Marcus. Police suspects mechanical failure is to be blamed for the crash.
