Three members of counterfeiters gang held

KOLKATA - Three members of a Murshidabad-based counterfeiters gang have been arrested by the city’s Special Task Force (STF), police said Friday.

“Fake currency of a face value Rs.436,500 were recovered from them. They have been remanded in police custody for 12 days after they were produced before a city court this (Friday) afternoon,” said STF Deputy Commissioner Bastab Badiya.

According to STF sources, acting on a tip-off, the STF sleuths raided a market under the flyover near Sealdah railway station and arrested the three men, who were identified as Nazu Shiekh, Hasan Shiekh and Rahim Baksh.

The trio, aged between 25 and 28 years, are residents of Doulatabad and Islampur areas of Murshidabad district.

“Fake currency in denominations of 1,000 and 500 rupees were recovered. We are in search of the other gang members,” said Badiya.
