AGRA - Three students were killed when a car carrying them from Mathura to Agra in Uttar Pradesh banged into a tanker early Sunday, police said.

The accident took place on the Mathura bypass in the wee hours. The car had eight passengers - seven students from the Sainath College in Sikandra, Agra, and the driver.

Four students and the driver were injured and have been admitted to a private nursing home in Agra.

The students, who had gone to Mathura on work, took a lift in the car and the driver appears to have gone to sleep when the accident occurred, police said.

Mathura and Agra are nearly 60 km apart.
