Bandit gunned down in Uttar Pradesh

LUCKNOW - A bandit wanted in several cases including murder and abduction was gunned down by police in a forested area of Uttar Pradesh’s Chitrakoot district Tuesday, an official said.

Shankar Kol, 32, was shot dead in the Markundi forest area. But five-six of his accomplices escaped. The dead man primarily operated in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

Superintendent of Police Tehsildar Singh told reporters in Chitrakoot, some 300 km from here, that Kol carried a reward of Rs.40,000 for his capture.
