CHANDIGARH - The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested an engineer of the Chandigarh pollution control department Thursday while he was accepting a bribe of Rs.25,000, an official said.

According to the CBI, the accused was identified as Sandeep Madan. The CBI laid a trap to arrest Madan on the complaint of Dinesh Gulati, resident of Halomajra village here.

“Madan had demanded Rs.100,000, in two instalments, from Gulati in lieu of giving a no objection certificate to his Halomajra-based factory. We laid a trap near Sector 24 here and arrested the accused while accepting a bribe of Rs.25,000,” said a CBI official here.

In a separate incident, the investigating agency arrested the superintendent of the Chandigarh estate office Tuesday while he was accepting a bribe of Rs.100,000
