AGARTALA - A 22-year old student of a government medical college here hanged himself in his hostel room after he felt the girl he had fallen in love with on a social networking site was ignoring him, police said Friday.

The fourth-year medical student Rupak Nath, 22, had never met the Kolkata girl, who is enrolled in a Bangalore engineering college. Rupak had fallen in love with the girl after they came to know each other through Orkut some two years back, a police official said, quoting Rupaks friends.

Before committing suicide at the medical college hostel Thursday night, Rupak inflicted cuts on his body to write the name of the girl in blood. Her name was also written in blood on the walls of his room, police said.

Rupak was the only son of his parents.

The death shocked the students and teachers at the Agartala Government Medical College, who said they did not notice anything amiss in the days leading up to Rupak’s suicide.
