HAVANA, CUBA (GaeaTimes.com)- A small Aerocaribbean airline plane crashed yesterday at Central Cuba and the fatal accident possibly killed all of the passengers and crews on board, leading media sources have reported. There were 68 people in the plane including 61 passengers. The ATR Twin turboprop which had a French origin started its journey from Santiago de Cuba city and it was headed for Havana, the Capital of Cuba. There were 28 foreigners among the plane’s passengers say the latest reports. It is still not clear why the flight crashed. There could be a technical snag. However, the weather was not particularly bad even though Hurricane Tomas was expected to pass through the region afterwards.

The ill fated Aerocaribbean airline plane went down on its way to Havana yesterday. It was reported later that the plane’s pilot made frantic efforts to contact the air traffic control. However, before he could convey anything the contact was lost and the aircraft crashed. The place where the plane came down in flames is thick in vegetation. That is why the emergency crews who rushed there had to resort to using bulldozers. They were able to bring out a number of dead bodies from the spot. The eyewitnesses described the plane as “a ball of flame in the middle of the mountain”.

The reason of the crash of the Aerocaribbean flight will be known once the investigation is over. The Civil Aviation Authority of Cuba said that the possibility of getting any survivor is very slim. The list of the victims who died in the crash will be published by the airline shortly.
