Chandigarh trader robbed of Rs.2 mn

CHANDIGARH - A trader here was robbed of Rs.2 million (Rs.20 lakh) at gun-point Tuesday morning, police said.

According to the police, the trader had withdrawn the money from a Western Union money transfer office in the busy Sector 35 market. Just a few minutes later, his Honda City car was stopped by two men who forcibly took away his bag containing the cash and escaped.

“The victim had withdrawn the money and was going to make some payment when this incident took place. The accused broke the glass of his car with a baseball bat and snatched the bag at gun-point,” Anokh Singh, investigation officer of the case, told IANS.

“The victim is in trauma and we are waiting for him to recover so that we can prepare the sketches of the accused,” he added.

According to police sources, the bag contained around Rs.15 lakh in Indian currency and over $8,000.
