LUCKNOW - A schoolteacher here has been booked for beating a nine-year-old student who suffered ear injuries and was taken to hospital as he fainted, police said Saturday.

Ashutosh Kashyap, a maths teacher at the Indira Public School, beat up Mohd. Amaan Friday for not taking out his textbook.

A case was registered against Kashyap late Friday on a complaint by Amaan’s parents.

“It appears that the teacher lost his temper when the student did not take out his textbook as the class started and started beating him up,” police inspector Umesh Singh told reporters here Saturday.

“We have booked the teacher on charges of voluntarily causing hurt,” he said.

Amaan’s parents allege that Kashyap did not stop beating their son even after he started vomiting in class.

The school authorities said Kashyap had been sacked following the incident.
