Kiev, Oct 12 (IANS/RIA Novosti) At least 40 people were killed and 12 were injured when a train collided with a bus in Ukraine Tuesday, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said.

The crash occurred in the Dnipropetrovsk region when the bus driver drove onto the railroad, despite a warning from a railroad traffic control signal, a traffic police statement said.

“Many of the injured are in a critical condition, so the death toll could increase,” spokesman for the Ukrainian interior ministry, Dmitry Andreev, said.

The train was travelling between Krivoy Rog and Zaporozhye towns when the accident occurred near Marganets.

According to preliminary information, the bus was carrying around 50 passengers.
