Hungary Toxic Spill To Be Plugged By Dam

KOLONTAR, HUNGARY (GaeaTimes.com)- Official in Hungary have revealed that an emergency dam is being built to contain the toxic spill that resulted after a reservoir burst last week that is known to have claimed as many as six lives. Disaster management officials have divulged that the emergency dam would be able to prevent any subsequent spill that might wreck a havoc in the town of Kolontar which has been adversely affected by the toxic spill and the construction of the dam is expected to be completed by Tuesday.

While talking to reporters on Monday about the toxic spill, Peter Szijjarto, who is the spokesperson of the Prime Minister of Hungary said as many as 4,000 people as well as 300 machines are working relentlessly to build the emergency dam with the aim of preventing any tragedy in the future. In the meanwhile, Hungarian disaster management agency spokesperson Tibor Dobson has confirmed that no new cracks have been found in the walls of the industrial waste pond, however, authorities are not inclined to withdraw the state of alert as yet. The disaster management spokesperson further divulged that although the scenario is indeed hopeful but any significant change in the situation is yet to take place. The Hungarian government is reported to have held an emergency meeting on Sunday to ascertain the aftermath of the toxic spill.

Officials in Hungary are revealed to the media that a group of environmental experts are likely to arrive on Monday to help the authorities deal with the toxic spill which is posing a major environmental threat. In the wake of the widespread devastation that has been caused by the red sludge, European Union experts have been dispatched to Hungary to tackle the situation.
