Eight police officers kidnapped, killed in Mexico

MEXICO CITY - Eight police officers were found dead Saturday in the southern Mexican state of Guerrero, after a shoot-out with suspected members of a drug gang, officials said.

Nine police officers were kidnapped after the shoot-out in the town of Teloloapan. According to newspaper reports, some of the bodies had been dismembered.

One of the police officers survived.

Since Mexican President Felipe Calderon declared war on the drug trade three and a half years ago, more than 28,000 people have been killed. Among the dead are hundreds of law enforcement officials.
