TEHRAN - Five people were burnt to death when a car caught fire in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan, a media report said Saturday.

“The car caught fire automatically while moving towards Nabandan,” Xinhua reported quoting police officials as telling the IRNA news agency.

“There were three men and two women in the car” when the accident occurred, provincial police commander Ardavan Qasemi said.

In a similar incident in August, three people were burnt to death when their car was hit by a lorry in the southeastern province of Kerman.

According to official data, over 20,000 people are killed in car accidents in Iran every year.
