Firefighters battling 7-building blaze in NJ

NEWARK, N.J. — High temperatures and low water pressure are hampering firefighters at a blaze that has damaged at least seven buildings on a residential block of New Jersey’s largest city.

Authorities say the fire broke out Wednesday afternoon in an abandoned building about two miles west of downtown Newark.

Two buildings have burned to the ground, and five nearby homes have been damaged. The cause hasn’t been determined.

No injuries have been reported among residents. But fire department spokesman John Brown says about a dozen firefighters have been treated for heat-related injuries after working in 90-degree weather.
