KUALA LUMPUR - The Malaysian government has announced aid of $1 million to help people in flood-hit Pakistan.

“The government of Malaysia hopes the contribution will help alleviate the suffering of flood victims in Pakistan,” New Straits Times said Friday quoting a foreign ministry statement.

The floods since July 22, Pakistan’s worst in 80 years, has so far claimed at least 1,600 lives and left almost a million homeless, the state-run Bernama news agency reported.

Some 3.5 million people in Pakistan’s Punjab, Balochistan, Gilgit Baltistan and Kyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces have been affected by the disaster.
