Leh Flash Flood Makes Headlines

SRINAGAR, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com) Around 50 people have lost their lives and more than 300 others have received injury an unexpected flash flood in Leh town located at the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir. The flash flood was very powerful and it washed away a number of government buildings and other homes as it has been reported. The town had been hit by a huge cloudburst on Thursday night and cause mud slides and flash floods. Farooq Ahmed the Inspector General of Police in Kashmir admitted.

After Leh was hit by the flash flood the cops started relief and rescue operation. They were aided by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police and the army. The victims are being accommodated in makeshift tents. Free ration has been arranged for the affected lot. It has been reported that the flash flood swept away four cops. The injured lot has been hospitalized. The army has also pressed the choppers in relief operations. A government polytechnic, a BSNL building and a Central Reserve Police Force establishment have been severely damaged in the flash flood. Owing to the damage caused to the BSNL headquarter telecommunication in the place has received a jolt.

Even the Leh airport runway is under flood water. The road connectivity has also been disrupted. The cloudburst had hit the Choglamsar village which is located above Leh town. The casualty may go up and the rescue operation is on. A bridge between Nemu and Syong was destroyed in the calamity thus cutting off the vital Srinagar-Leh Highway. The incident has made headlines prompting political leaders of assuring support and monetary assistance.
