23 injured in Texas balcony collapse

AUSTIN, Texas — The second-floor balcony of a condominium in central Texas collapsed during a party, sending 23 people to the hospital.

The collapse happened around 4:15 a.m. Sunday at the Garden Court Condominiums in Austin, about four miles from the city’s downtown.

Fire Lt. Randy Elmore says about 30 people were on the balcony when it collapsed. He said 23 people were taken to an Austin hospital with injuries ranging from minor scratches to bone fractures.

None of the injuries appear to be life-threatening.

Hospital spokeswoman Lauren Picarello says all but five people had been released as of early Sunday afternoon.
