THANE - Three people from Rajasthan, including a 12-year-old boy, were killed when a passenger bus rammed into a stationery truck on the outskirts of Maharashtra’s Thane district early Saturday, officials said.

The luxury bus was on a trip from Rajasthan to Mumbai when the accident took place on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway around 5.30 a.m., said Ravindra Kharde, an official at the Kasa police station.

The victims were identified as Jalaram B. Dudhi, the 45-year-old bus driver, Bhagirath P. Ramjisyag, the bus attendant, and Nandlal D. Chauhan, a 12-year-old passenger, Kharde said.

Seven passengers have been rushed to a private hospital in nearby Vapi area of south Gujarat.

Though the cause of the accident is not known, preliminary investigations suggest that it could be due to poor visibility or the driver dozing away in the early morning hours.
