Overnight NYC fire kills 4, seriously hurts child

NEW YORK — An overnight fire in a house on New York City’s Staten Island has killed four people and seriously injured a child.

The Staten Island Advance says the blaze started just after 4 a.m. Thursday in the attic of a two-story brick home in Port Richmond and spread quickly.

A Fire Department spokesman told the newspaper that the injured child was taken to Richmond University Medical Center.

The Advance says the blaze was declared under control at 5:48 a.m.
