CAIRO - At least seven girls were killed when a boat sank in the Nile Thursday evening, officials said.

There were 19 girls on the boat, when it sank in the Helwan region, south of the Egyptian capital Cairo. Eleven were rescued while one is still missing, police chief Hamed Abdallah said.

The boat was chartered by a church in al-Maadi district for a voyage on the Nile and a picnic, Xinhua reported.
