Youth Akali Dal leader shot dead in Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH - A Youth Akali Dal leader was shot dead at an upscale market here Tuesday evening, police said.

Tripdeep Singh, 40, a resident of Punjab’s Muktsar town, was shot in the upscale Sector 9 market.

“Singh was staying in his sister’s house in Zirakpur town in Punjab for the last few days. He had come to Chandigarh to drop his niece at Sector 7 and then he went to Sector 9,” a police official said.

A case has been registered against Milken Bajaj and some unidentified assailants, who fled away after killing Tripdeep Singh.

Singh was rushed to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research here, where doctors pronounced him dead, the official said.

According to police sources, Tripdeep Singh’s name had earlier figured in a case relating to an obscene MMS of Bajaj’s sister.

Sector 9 is home to many VIPs from Punjab and Haryana, including the private residence of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
